Book Review: "Bikinis Forever" by Michael Dalton

Although " Bikinis Forever " by Michael Dalton does not come into the category of books this site was set up to review, it is very closely related to a large number of books which are, and the manner in which it deals with that relationship is interesting. "Bikinis forever" is the sixth, and the final non-supernatural,"Unconventional Romance" in the "Bikini Days" series. The Amazon series page can be found at:   Bikini Days (6 book series) Kindle Edition "Unconventional Romance" is code for "Haremlit" e.g. the romantic elements involve a man with multiple partners, which seems to be a popular meme among some, mostly but not exclusively male, authors and readers at the moment. Michael Dalton has written a large number of fantasy books, most but not all of which also fall into this category. The books in this series are: 1)  Bikini Days: An Unconventional Romance 2)  Bikini Nights (Bikini Days Book 2) 3)  Bikini Dawn 4)  Bikini ...

Thrawn on the Jedi Order's attempt to arrest Chancellor Palpatine

Image
Another "Chris Talks" fan fiction video in which Grand Admiral Thrawn discusses with Captain Pellaeon and Jedi Master Joruus C'baoth the legality, practicality, and strategic disaster of the Jedi Council's attempt to arrest Chancellor Palpatine. This discussion takes place in the "Heir to the Empire" Star Wars Legends timeline, not the Disney canon, but most of the history Thrawn and Pellaeon relate is still part of the Disney canon, and almost everything in the arguments which Thrawn presents can be applied to the series of events in the current official Canon.

The Immortal memory

Image
Today Britain's Royal Navy toasts the immortal memory of Vice Admiral Lord Nelson, possibly the greatest sailing admiral who ever lived. Remembering Nelson and all who fell with him at Trafalgar on 21st October 1805.

Thrawn's assessment of Endor

Image
This is another "Chris Talks" fan fiction video, set in the "Heir to the empire" legends timeline (not the Disney Canon.) Grand Admiral Thrawn takes Captain Pellaeon and Colonel Phenir to the site of the Shield Generator at Endor, nine years after the battle at which the Emperor and Darth Vader died. In this timeline Thrawn himself had been sent to the Unknown Regions by the Emperor at the time of the battle of Endor rather than being rather than trapped in another galaxy having been carried there by space whales. The interesting thing about Thrawn's analysis of what went wrong for the Empire in a version with no Operation Cinder is that he produces very well argued evidence which strongly points towards the conclusion that the version of Emperor Palpatine in that universe was nearly as destructive in his attitude to what should happen to his own supporters after his death, as the Emperor who DID order operation Cinder was in the Disney Canon timeline. In this t...

Thrawn on why the Emperor closed down the Senate - and what it cost him.

Image
Another "Chris Talks" fan fiction video in which Grand Admiral Thrawn discusses the reasons the Emperor closed down the Imperial Senate. And the consequences. This is set in the "Heir to the Empire" Star Wars Legends timeline, not in the Disney canon one, but most of what Thraswn argues applies equally to both.

Thomas Lord Cochrane: the man who was vindicated two centuries after the event.

Image
Thomas Cochrane was a British naval officer who had a brilliant career fighting the French during the Napoleonic wars, then became an admiral in the navies of various Latin American independence movements and had an equally successful record fighting for them. His exploits helped to inspire a number of great works of naval fiction, almost certainly including some of the events of both C.S. Forester's "Hornblower" books and Patrick O'Brien's "Master and Commander" series.  As I write this post, a reproduction of Montagu Dawson's painting " The smoke of battle - the gallant Speedy " hangs on the wall of the room, depicting the capture in 1801 by HMS Speedy under Cochrane's command of the Spanish frigate El Gamo . The battle shown in the painting was an extraordinary victory by Lord Cochrane. The disparity between the two vessels was staggering: • HMS Speedy : A small 14-gun brig with a severely depleted crew of just 54 men. • El Gamo : ...
